Happy misspellings in English

There are a number of intentional misspellings widely used among native speakers of English (such as "gonna" and "gimmie"). Since such misspellings, which I have dubbed "happy misspellings", are usually not in the dictionary, they are a stumbling block for ESL students. Therefore I compiled a (one-page) list of them, which I distributed to my students here in China. The information is couched in Esperanto. This illustrates my approach to promoting Esperanto: Simply going ahead and using it for its intended purpose. Such materials that I prepare for them are above-and-beyond the call of duty anyway, so if they complained about it (which they have never done), it would be a case of looking a gift-hourse in the mouth. Anyway, below is the article, which, by the way, I have also uploaded to my ipernity account.

Difino: Feliĉa misliterumado en la angla estas intenca misliterumado vaste-uzata inter anglalingvanoj.

Feliĉaj misliterumadoj en la angla plejofte ne troviĝas en la vortaro, kaj do estas faliloj por fremdaj lernantoj de la angla (t.e., “ESL students”). Do ni difinas ilin ĉi tie.

’neath (mallongigo, uzata en la poezio, por “beneath”, ekzemple:

I turn my collar to the cold and damp

anywho (ŝerca formo de “anyway”)

B4 (ŝerca, ĉar laŭ-sona, formo de “before”)

bee’s wax (ŝerca misliterumado / prononcado de “business”, aparte por la esprimo “It’s none of your bee’s wax.”)

bizness (ŝerca misliterumado de “business”)

edumucated (ŝerca (ĉar mem-kontraŭdira) formo de “educated”. ekzemple: “I went to school, so now I’m edumucated.”)

ghoti (ŝerca misliterumado de “fish”: “gh” kiel en “enough”, “o” kiel en “women”, kaj “ti” kiel en “nation”)

gimmie (ŝerca formo de “give me”)

git (fonetika (mis)literumado / prononcado de la volada formo de “get”. ekzemple: “Can I go get my book?”, kun “get” prononcata “git” )

gonna (neformala mallongigo de “going to”)

hardee har har (ŝerca formo de rido, indikante ne-kredon aŭ malan senton)

merkin (ŝerca formo de “American”, des pli ridiga pro la kolizio kun la responda vera vorto)

moi (misliterumado por “me”, per la responda franca vorto, kutime kun emfazo, uzata, demande, kiel ŝerca konfeso al eta misfaro, ekzemple: A. “Was it YOU who ate those strawberries?” B. “Moi?” La surfaca signifo estas, “Ĉu MI farus tian agon???”)

neckid (ŝerca formo de “naked”)

probly (oportuna mallongigo de “probably”)

ridulkus (ŝerca formo de “ridiculous”)

rots of ruck (ŝerca formo de “lots of luck”, kun la subkompreno, ke oni fuŝos)

sez (fonetika (mis)literumado de “says”)

thar (ŝerca, aŭ loza, formo de “there”, plejofte en la esprimo, “Thar she blows!”)

Cetere, en apartaj verkoj povas aperi pliaj tiaj misliterumadoj. Ekzemple, en la Winnie-the-Pooh – rakontoj, aperas “heffalump” kiel feliĉa misliterumado de “elephant”, “woozle” kiel feliĉa misliterumado por “weasel”, kaj aliaj feliĉaj misliterumadoj.
