Listo de Esperantaj Klasikajhoj, kompilita de William Auld - The List of "Esperanto Classics" compiled by William Auld

Tim Westover's picture

In 1988, the famed Esperanto poet William Auld produced a list of "Esperanto Classics" -- essentially the Esperanto canon as he saw it. He updated the list in 1997. The list, even with its flaws, is a great starting point for exploring Esperanto literature.

Here's the list with links to Esperanto-USA's bookstore for titles in stock. Some of these texts are also available from other book services (like UEA's) or even for free on the Internet -- I'll update the list with links that I find or that others bring to my attention.

Proza Fikcio / Prose Fiction

Poezio / Poetry

What's missing from the list? Anything published after 1997, certainly. Recent works by Baldur Ragnarsson, John Francis, Jorge Camacho, and Mao Zifu come to mind. Also, a number of Esperanto classics are actually translations, which are absent from the list above. Kalocsay's translation of Dante's Inferno, Auld's translation of the Lord of the Rings, Hamleto, La Biblio - the list goes on.

Updated to include links to UEA's bookstore for some books that Esperanto-USA doesn't have.

Dankon, Tim, pro bonega (kaj rapidega!) laboro.

Mi rekomendas ke homoj kiuj interesighas pri tiuj chi titoloj achetu tion, kion ili volas havi. Ofte libroj tuj malaperas . . . aparte kiam restas eble nur 1-2 ekzempleroj en la libroservo.

Tre utila afisho!
