My son has once again qualified for the
US Linguistics Team for the
International Linguistics Olympiad
which this year will be held in Poland at the same time as the UKE.
Unfortunately, it is being held at the opposite corner of Poland, in Wrocław (aka Vroclavo, Breslau, Vratislav, etc.), some 500+ km (on roads) from Białystok (aka Bjalistoko), where the UKE will be.
So... I can either
- accompany the team as an adult chaperone, somewhat embarrassing my son, and missing the UKE, but helping them out and getting some touring and travel in
- travel outbound with the team, then abandon them and travel independently to the UKE, seeing Bialystok (and maybe stopping in Wysokie Mazowieckie where half of my family is from ), meeting up with my son for the trip home.
- just stay home, save money, and think wistfully of either location.
