Junaj Usonaj Esperantistaj! Venu

Darsi Ross's picture

The LK was home to several discussions about the E-USA Youth movement (or, lack thereof). We're thinking conventions, meetups, a home on the E-USA website, etc. Anyone (youth or youth-at-heart!) up for a Skype brainstorm session tomorrow around 7 PM Central time? (By tomorrow I mean Saturday, probably "today" by the time I end up publishing this.) Let me know if so! If not, feel free to leave ideas in comments here!

So: Saturday, Skype, 7PM CST. Ĉeestu.

PS: My group had rave reviews of the LK as a whole and I am working on a blog post for that as well.

I only just read this, so I guess I missed the brainstorming! I have notes from the meetings at the LK, so I'll write them up and send you some emails. Hopefully we can decide on a mailing list quick, so then you can also send out any notes from the Skype session.

Some thoughts

There is a drupal "book" in the current e-usa site for youth: http://esperanto-usa.org/eo/node/18 that we set up as a placeholder and originally appeared among the "primary links" (along the top). When no-one took it over, it got moved down. It would be simple to put it back up along the top and we could create some custom blocks, etc, that would show up when those pages are visible. We could also change it to say "USEJ", but actually "youth" and "junulara" (as it is now) are a bit more commonsense.

If you want USEJ to have its own separate site, I could also create a domain name (like usej.esperanto-usa.org ) and set up the site there, but I'm a bit concerned about sustaining the effort necessary to keep an entire site monitored and up-to-date.

I would rather USEJ just take over the Esperanto-USA site and use it for their purposes as much as they like, instead of dividing our effort on two sites. But I'm prepared to be helpful and work constructively with you either way.

I have volunteered to coordinate the program for the congress in Washington. I'm visiting Washington in a couple of weeks and hope to meet with the organizers. What I would love is to have a "youth thread", which would be one of, say, three things going on at any particular moment that would be youth oriented. It would basically be a column in the table of congress events that we would organize in coordination with USEJ.

One other thing that would be worth doing is to try to find someone to stay in touch with tejo: http://tejo.org/ Chuck Smith used to do that and it would be worth getting in touch with him to get ideas.

I'll try to join in with your skype conversation tonight, but can't promise anything.
