USEJ - Agadoj, kaj Petoj

Follow new USEJ developments at our Google Groups mailing list!

USEJ now has its own Facebook Page, a Group at the E-o social network Esperantujo, and soon will have a twitter account ("usej" was taken -- any suggestions?). I highly recommend staying in contact with them, particularly the Facebook Page. The Esperantujo site is still in its infancy but has a lot of potential, and a chat feature!

Please send pictures of young'ns at the kongreso to esperantouiuc@gmail.com or upload them to Flickr and tell me about it. I'd like to post them on Facebook and in the Youth section of E-USA.

Upon trying to see when USEJ was founded, I found a rather anemic Wikipedia which stated 1992 (correct?), but it really needs to be updated. There is not even an English article for USEJ. We ought to get on that. I can only provide so much -- those of you who recall interesting things that it has done please update that! :-) The Esperanto-USA articles too. It's shameful.

At the kongreso, there was much call for a USEJ meet-up. As the Aŭtuna Renkontiĝo is coming up, I'd certainly like to encourage a lot of junuloj to attend (as I'll be trying to drag my group there) but another option is having it sometime in the winter, when students will likely have breaks and brief freedom from finals (say it three times fast). Although winter is not the mid-west's best traveling season, it is a convenient time to perhaps hold a Midwest Kongreso along with the USEJ meet-up. Anyone interested in helping organize this? More discussion on that later.

Some other ideas that were discussed at the Kongreso: T-shirts with naughty/snarky Esperanto phrases, cheap camping trips, changing the max age to 30 (like TEJO) or 35, etc. A project close to my heart is to help develop lines to shout out at Rocky Horror or Incubus, like happens with cult film classics. :-)
