55th ANNUAL ELNA CONVENTION 27-30 July, 2007 - Tijuana Mexico, Hotel Pueblo Amigo

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION is our theme, and for this reason we have chosen to have most of our convention just over the border from San Diego and hope to have representatives from Mexico and other Latin American countries participating with us along with the usual visiting samideanoj from other countries. Tijuana is renowned as "the world's most visited border city." It is interesting in its own right and well worth visiting even if our convention were not being held here. For more details about the city visit: www.tijuanaonline.org and www.seetijuana.com. (See also this brochure.)

Roberto Burgess will help us arrange for local sight-seeing by public transportation - and arrange for those of us who want to see the big animals - at the San Diego Zoo Wild Life Park. the best place in the world to see large animals in nature outside of African Wildlife parks. (see: www.SanDiegoZoo.org). And there are lots of less tiring sights in this great tourist city. See:

HOW TO GET TO TIJUANA FROM SAN DIEGO
Passports for U.S. citizens are NOT REQUIRED for non-air border crossings UNTIL 2008. However, you do need proof of citizenship: voter's registration or official birth certificate with picture ID - such as a driver's license for your return. If you are planning to drive across the border, you need to buy special insurance - US insurance will not cover you in case of accident (see:
www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/business/articles/0730biz-global0730.html
).
The easiest way to travel to Tijuana is to go to the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown San Diego and catch one of the buses that go almost every hour across the border ($12). From the station in downtown Tijuana, you can catch a cab for the short ride to the hotel - or make arrangements ahead of time for the shuttle from the hotel.
If you are flying into San Diego, it's a short cab ride to the Greyhound Bus station, or arrange to meet others in the elegant waiting room at the downtown old Santa Fe (Amtrak) Train Station. From the Amtrak station you can also catch the San Diego Trolley (MTS) to the end of the green line at the Santee Town Center which is one block from where the estraro will be staying at the Santee Inn. If you are registered there, we can arrange to have you go with members of the estraro on Friday afternoon to our hotel in Tijuana.
