Learn and have fun with Esperantists in Georgia!

We would just like to remind you all that the deadline (January 31st) to reserve lodging for the Southeastern Esperanto Convention (Mar. 31 - Apr. 2 at Unicoi State Park in Helen, Georgia) is fast approaching! We have conditionally reserved a limited number of lodge rooms and cabins - but we will lose any conditional reservations for rooms not reserved by January 31st. Also, there is no guarantee that there will be rooms left by January 31st, so please do not delay in reserving your room. Please see www.esperanto-atlanta.org for more details. Also, keep in mind that the registration fee for the convention will increase from $25 to $30 after January 31st.

La malbenita duonokulvitro!!!

Ailanto's picture

Last night I got around to watching "La Duonokulvitro" and enjoyed it immensely! Written by Auxgusto BAISSAC and published in 1905, it is believed to be the first original drama in Esperanto (maybe drama describes it technically, but I'd call it a humorous monolog with a bit of monological dialog and a cute linguistic self-reference). As others have noted elsewhere, the DVD is region-free but something about the format is neusona, so you may have trouble viewing it. Consensus seems to be that it works on computers and on many (most?) DVD players, but your mileage may vary. My computers and my little Emerson DVD player had no trouble with it, but my Playstation 2 couldn't handle it (The PS2 is in our living room, so that's what we usually use for watching DVDs, and so was the first one I tried). The DVD also contains a miniwebsite with texts, an essay, some photos, questions to ponder, and some info about the film (despite the creators' self-criticisms, I wouldn't change a thing about this film!). "La Duonokulvitro" is available at the ELNA bookstore. More information is available at the Esperanto Association of Britain.

Esperanto: la reklamo

limako's picture

Dankon!

PMEG is available now!

filipo's picture

This announcement has just arrived from ELNA's Central Office (CO). (from Don Harlow, the director of the CO, on Monday, Jan 16, 2006)

ELNA's own new publication is now available from ELNA (and, for the moment, no other book service, though that will change). Here are the current specifications:

PLENA MANLIBRO DE ESPERANTA GRAMATIKO. Bertilo WENNERGREN. The long-awaited successor to the "Plena Gramatiko de Esperanto", this book is aimed at ordinary Esperanto speakers who want to study the language's grammar, word-building system, writing and pronunciation in detail. It explains the language in an easy manner, from the most basic matters through the most specific of details. It uses an abundance of examples to help its explanations, among them many from the "Fundamento" and the other works of Zamenhof. 2005. 696p. 235x165. Bound. USA. ISBN 0939785072.

Li ankaux volis danki min pri miaj kontrauxmilita agado, dirante:

Ailanto's picture

Radio Verda reappeared last October, and seems to have really found its niche with this third incarnation. I think of Arono and Karlina as the George and Gracie for Esperantists of the new millennium. (Though I'm not sure I've ever actually heard a George and Gracie show... just heard a lot about them over the years, so my belief may not be entirely logical, but, there it is.) And though it's not in Esperanto, I recommend Arono's song soma alti se!

Recognize the name Lamont Cranston?

The Shadow!

334 Shadow novels were written between 1931 and 1967, by several authors all using the pseudonym Maxwell Grant. Most of the stories were written by Walter Brown Gibson. His story "Crime Under Cover" appeared on 1 June 1941, and is unique in that Esperanto dialog is sprinkled throughout. The story also contains a brief (and slightly imperfect) description of Esperanto in an endnote.
