Recently, the NYTimes offered a forum where people could ask questions that were then submitted to several experts in artificial languages, including Arika Okrent. (Arika Okrent is the author of In the Land of Invented Languages and will be speaking at the Landa Kongreso)
Today the answers have been posted and, if you want a warm and fuzzy feeling, go to the article, search for Esperanto in the text, and read the answers that Arika wrote -- almost all of the answers that address Esperanto were written by her. She has really hit a home run. You would be hard pressed to find a more thoughtful and nuanced presentation of Esperanto anywhere. Read more for some of choicer pieces.

Mi sukcesis re-aliĝi al Esperanto-USA kaj UEA ĉifoje antaŭ la fino de la jaro. Mi ricevis hodiaŭ rememorigan mesaĝon de UEA pri realiĝo kiu enhavis ligilon al nova faldfolio pri tio, kion UEA faras por Esperanto.
Mi foje plendas ke Esperanto-USA ne faras sufiĉe por antaŭenigi Esperanton. Precipe, mi plendas ke Esperanto-USA estas "serva" organizaĵo kaj emas respondi. Mi kredas ke ni devas memstare agi por Esperanto, se ni volas kreski kaj sukcesi kiel organizaĵo.
Samtempe, kiam mi verkis la enketon ĉisemajne, mi devis agnoski ke Esperanto-UEA fakte multon faras. The World Esperanto Association organized a Zamenhof Symposium in celebration of Zamenhof Day on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 15 in New York City. Speakers included Esther Schor, Arika Okrent, James Lieberman, Timothy Reagon, and Humphrey Tonkin. Video coverage of the event is provided in the pages that follow.
