Press Release about the UK![]() I sent a press release to my local newspaper about my trip to the UK in Florence, Italy. I must have done something right, because a reporter contacted me, interviewed me over the phone, and wrote a half-page article about Esperanto. The article was objective, mostly positive, and mentioned the ELNA website. In my press release, I stressed the fact that I live in Portland [Maine] and that I was the representative from Maine to the World Esperanto Congress (by default, since no other resident of Maine would be going to the congress). In my opinion, it is critical to give the press release a local slant. Newspapers are unabashedly parochial, probably because their readers are also.

do you have a link to the story online in the portland paper?

The article is at http://esperanto-me.org/articles/ppress.html.
The actual paper article included a photo of me, and a sidebar that showed the Esperanto words for 'hello', 'I love you', and 'thank you'.
The sidebar also showed the ELNA website address.
Note: Esperanto meetings in Cambridge are held monthly, not weekly as the article says.
I concur.
"Esperanto speakers convene in Florence" is not news in Portland, Maine.
"Local man travels to Italy to speak made-up language" is front-page gold.
Bravo, vilcxjo-me, for showing us how it's done.
