Community campaign
| Every fall, my employer circulates paperwork to contribute money to charities. I mostly haven't contributed through the program for the past 5 years (instead contributing to charities directly) due to the failure of the system to fund faculty contracts. (Believe or not, the State of Massachusetts agreed to our contracts, the governor signed the contracts, but when the funding bill came to his desk, he vetoed the funding. For three years, we received nothing on contracts negotiated and signed in good faith. On Friday, October, 20, 2006, we finally received the last of the retroactive pay: the pay increase we were supposed to have received for work in 2001-2002.) Since they've finally caught up, I'm planning to contribute as part of the campaign.

Pro tio ke ili finfine pagis min, mi intencas kontribui per la kampanjo.

| The Esperanto League for North America is not one of the charities listed, unfortunately. (I don't know why not -- maybe someone could look into how we could be listed as one of the federated charities contributing to "global peace and harmony" or something.) But the form says that with the appropriate information, I should be able to direct my contributions to the charity of my choice. I'm going to give it a shot and I'll update my blog here with the results as I go forward. Wish me luck!

Great Idea!!!
That's a great idea, Steve. ELNA needs to be on such charity lists. My boss is aware of ELNA, of course, and I have at times had him make a donation to ELNA out of my paycheck as a before-tax contribution. Anybody who works for a company that makes contributions should be asked about ELNA. It not only might help get some money donated, but will also raise awareness. Awareness is one of our biggest opportunities.
