Esperanto-USA (E-USA) is a non-profit organization of Esperanto speakers and supporters of Esperanto in the United States. The League seeks to increase understanding of Esperanto and the world language problem. We invite you to join our community!
In addition to this website, Esperanto-USA operates an on-line bookstore, a Newsletter, and an annual congress for Esperanto speakers. Members receive significant benefits, including the newsletter and discounts at the bookstore and the annual congress.
Click here to learn more about this site, part of our community-editable book about how to use the site.
We'll send you more information about learning and using Esperanto, including the first lesson of our free ten-lesson introductory language course, if you fill out this brief form. If possible, please provide both an e-mail address and a street address. If you are outside the United States, or would prefer an electronic version of the course, you can request the free e-mail version.
Follow new USEJ developments at our Google Groups mailing list!
USEJ now has its own Facebook Page, a Group at the E-o social network Esperantujo, and soon will have a twitter account ("usej" was taken -- any suggestions?). I highly recommend staying in contact with them, particularly the Facebook Page. The Esperantujo site is still in its infancy but has a lot of potential, and a chat feature!
We're putting together bookstore recommendations for people new to Esperanto or people looking for more reading material.

"Stuff You Should Know", produced by the great website HowStuffWorks.com, is one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes. Recently, Esperanto was featured on their podcast "Three Innovations We Need Right Now" (teleportation, a universal language, and a second Einstein).

Note! The Esperanto-USA website has just undergone a big update and it will take us a while to get everything put back into place. You can still visit the old site. In particular, there were a couple of posts people made that didn't make the move yet.
Please let us know if you like the update and the new theme (or if you hate it). Or if there are things we can do to improve things. It may take a few days, but hopefully we'll get things sorted out.
In The Jewish Week, Tom Eccardt's Esperanto activity is featured in an article called Dr. One-Who-Hopes:
On Wednesday evenings, Tom Eccardt pulls his bike up to the curb at Park Avenue and 21st Street, takes off his helmet and enters a small deli called Emma’s Dilemma. Inside, he peels off his jacket like Clark Kent, exposing a bright green T-shirt emblazoned with one word, one mission: ESPERANTO.
Srikanth Reddy's poem Fundamentals of Esperanto is today's (June 15th) poem at ArtBeat on PBS. It's also available through the Poetry Foundation's Chicago Poetry Tour.
I would love to attend this program, but it's a bit of a schlep from north Jersey.
The Spring 2009 issue of Pakn Treger, published by the National Yiddish Book Center, in Amherst, MA, has listed the following in its calendar:
Sunday, October 25th - Talk
The Universal Language: Zamenhof, Jews and the Making of Esperanto
This page provides descriptions and links for regularly occurring Esperanto events that USEJ members might be interested in attending. Our events calendar lets you know what events are coming up, but hopefully this web page will give you a better idea of what the events actually are like.
Esperantoland is kind of like the village of Brigadoon: it pops up for a few days here and there, wherever Esperanto speakers gather. For a weekend or a week, or in some cases for several weeks, you can immerse yourself in Esperanto by attending one of the many Esperanto events held regularly around the world. These events can be a way to find out about other cultures, to meet people from other countries and start friendships that will last a long time, or just have fun by playing games, going to concerts, and hanging out with kids from other cultures but without any language barriers.
