New England Esperanto speakers are especially encouraged to come to the Jarkunveno of the Esperanto Society of New England, on April 8, 2006, at the Joshua Hyde Public Library at 306 Main Street in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Humphrey Tonkin, a former president of the World Esperanto Association (UEA) has agreed to join us and help us plan a strategy for the regional organization.
There will be an informal luncheon at 11am tentatively proposed for Napoli Pizzeria III at 57 Main Street in Sturbridge.
The official meeting will begin around noon in the Public Meeting Room in the basement of the library. Refreshments will be provided.
After the meeting people who are interested can join us for a few hours visiting Old Sturbridge Village, a history museum based around a re-created 1830's New England town.
You do not need to be a member of ESNE and there is no fee to attend the meeting, but meals and museum admission must be purchased separately.

Dr. Humphrey Tonkin
The appearance of the esteemed Dr. Humphrey Tonkin at the ESNE Jarkunveno will be a huge addition to these meetings. He is very well-known, liked, and appreciated because of his rich esperience and service to Esperanto over many years. He is a sought-after speaker. He has translated works from Winnie-the-Pooh to Shakespeare's Henry the Fifth.

Dr. Tonkin is president of the Board of Directors for the Esperantic Studies Foundation, and is President Emeritus & University Professor of the Humanities at the University of Hartford.
Search the ELNA's online bookstore for Tonkin. His famous speech delivered at the 100 year jubilee of Esperanto in 1987 in Warwaw, Poland, can be found in Boris Kolker's marvelous book Vojagxo en Esperantolando.
