Esperanto-USA is proud to announce the start of the 8th American Good Film Festival (UBFF), an international film competition that celebrates the creativity, diversity, and global Esperanto community.
Since its launch in 2021 by Alekso MILLER, the UBFF has inspired filmmakers from around the world to create original short films in Esperanto, a language created in 1887 to help people communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
“At Esperanto-USA, our mission is to promote Esperanto and help more people discover its value as a tool for international communication and cultural understanding,” says Amanda SCHMIDT, Executive Director of Esperanto-USA. “The American Good Film Festival supports that mission; it shows that Esperanto is a living language for creating, sharing stories, and connecting people around the world. Through film, we can engage newcomers to Esperanto in a modern and creative way.”
This year, Esperanto-USA is pleased to welcome Aaron FINGTAM as festival director. His film Malbonŝanca Kulero won first prize last year, and he also starred in Bona Esperanto por la Ĉiutaga Vivo, which received second prize.
The competition is open to everyone, and participation is completely free. To compete, films must:
- be less than four minutes long
- be entirely in Esperanto
- contain at least ten unique spoken Esperanto words
- and include this year’s required prop: a ring
Five judges will evaluate the films and award cash prizes to the ten most outstanding films:
🥇 First prize: $1200
🥈 Second prize: $800
🥉 Third prize: $600
🎬 Fourth through tenth prizes: $200 each
The deadline for submitting films is October 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. New York time.
Esperanto-USA invites everyone — from experienced filmmakers to new beginners — to participate and showcase their creativity to the global Esperanto community.
