Publishing House Guteto

Meet Guteto, Esperanto-USA’s new publishing project!

Working in collaboration with existing Esperanto publishing houses, we aim to contribute to the enrichment of Esperanto culture through our digital publishing project.

We will focus on American writers who create original works in Esperanto. We will also publish educational materials for English-speaking learners of Esperanto. By reissuing classic works, hope to make key texts from our cultural heritage accessible once again. Give a warm welcome to a new chapter in Esperanto-USA!

Our first project will be a collection of science fiction short stories. If you would like to be the first to hear about developments and updates related to this publishing project, simply enter your email address and we’ll send the news straight to your inbox! Thank you!

Dankon!

Ni baldaŭ kontaktos vin kun pliaj detaloj.

With the name “Guteto,” we pay tribute to the work of Morojo (Myrtle Douglas), an American Esperantist active in Los Angeles during the 1930s and 1940s. Morojo published her own science fiction fanzine, Guteto, between 1941 and 1946. In its pages, she promoted Esperanto within the science fiction community of the time, recruited sci-fi fans into various Esperanto organizations (EANA, IEL, LEA-NA, and SAT), and helped connect Esperantists seeking pen pals after World War II. She also edited the Sennaciulo Bulteno, which served as the main publication of SAT during the occupation of France between 1940 and 1945.

She is also now considered the mother of cosplay, as she created and debuted her first costume at the first World Science fiction Convention, held during the 1939 World’s Fair in New York. It was later discovered that she wore her costumes during the U.S. Esperanto Congress held at the same time and location!

Do you already have an idea for a book we could publish?

You’re in the right place! We are especially interested in reissuing Esperanto classics, new original works, or translations from American literature.

Do you already have a (nearly) finished project you’d like us to consider? Is there a book you’d particularly like to see published?
