Kia rondo?

Ne unu granda rondo familia, ŝajne.

Hodiaŭ en la usona ĵurnalo L.A. Times aperis eta sed ironie amuza mencio de Esperanto kadre de anglalingva recenzo pri sud-koreia aŭto. Skribis la aŭtoro:

I would have thought twice before calling it the Kia Rondo [...] Kia calls this vehicle the Carens in other world markets, but I guess that Kia Motors America thought that name was too soft and vaguely Esperanto-ish for U.S. ears.

Baleno kaj aliaj

Kiam mi estis en Eŭropo antaŭ kelkaj jaroj, mi vidis aŭton kiu nomiĝis "Baleno" -- de Suzuki. Mi vidis ie ke la nomo devenis de la Esperanta vorto. Ĝi ŝajnis tro malgranda por esti "baleno" laŭ mi. :-)

Kia Aŭto!

For those passing through who might miss the point, Neil's hypothesis is not too probable, since while "Kia Carens" is about half Esperanto (the name of the Korean auto company — I don't know where it comes from, but would suspect that it's an acronym for something like "Korean International Automotive" — is also an Esperanto word that can be translated in several ways, including "What a ...!"; but "Carens" is totally non-Esperanto), the name "Kia Rondo" is, probably only coincidentally, pure-dee Esperanto ("rondo" means "circle" as in "family circle").

Kia's missing an opportunity to name a car the "Kia Aŭto" (What a Car!).

LA Times and Esperanto

What's up with the L.A. Times? Seems the last few weeks they've mentioned Esperanto a few times. I think a slightly desparaging comment is a whole lot better than nothing at all.
So thanks, L.A. Times, and keep 'em coming.
